- Fly into Bhuntar Airport (Kullu, 250km / 9-10 hrs) or Chandigarh International Airport (450km / 14-16 hrs). From either airport, you can hire a taxi or catch a bus to Tabo.
- By train
- Arrive at Chandigarh (CDG) or Kalka (KLK) stations, followed by a 14-16 hour road journey to Tabo. Alternatively, take the scenic toy train to Shimla and continue by road.
- By bus
- Catch the daily evening HRTC bus from Shimla directly to Tabo (20-22 hrs). Alternatively, take a morning bus from Manali to Kaza (11 hrs), then hop on a local bus or shared taxi for the final 48km to Tabo.
- By road
- Drive the all-weather Shimla-Kinnaur route (360km), ideally split over two days for acclimatization. From June to October, you can take the adventurous summer route via Manali and Kunzum Pass (250km, 10-12 hrs).
When to come
September (Autumn & Clear Skies): This is arguably the most beautiful time to visit Tabo. The monsoon has passed, leaving crystal-clear blue skies, while the apple orchards are ripe and the valley takes on stunning golden hues. All roads are fully open, making it perfect for road trips and photography before the winter chill sets in.
February (Winter Wonderland): For the true adventurer, February offers the stark, quiet beauty of a "White Spiti." The valley is blanketed in thick snow, and the Spiti River is partially frozen. While temperatures drop well below freezing and the Manali route is closed (access is only via Shimla), it is an unforgettable time for winter expeditions, snow leopard tracking, and experiencing absolute solitude.
May (Summer & Peak Season): As the snow melts, May brings pleasant daytime weather and the valley comes alive. The apple orchards begin to bloom, and the harsh cold of winter recedes.
